When it comes to buying a home a hundred dollars usually doesn’t go a long way.
But that money could be all that’s needed to buy a $416,000 home in Sherwood Estates thanks to the 27th annual Rotary House Lottery.
Located at 242 Sunflower Street, the brand new 1,700 square foot home features 11-foot high ceilings in the great room, chocolate brown hardwood floors throughout and a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace. “Anyone who’s looked at it the first words they say is ‘wow’,” house lottery communications coordinator Gordie Garriock said Wednesday at the official ticket sale kickoff. “We’re really really happy with the house.”
The lottery has raised more than $4 million since it began, all given back through everything from student bursaries to the Shelter House. The Rotary Club just committed $500,000 over five years to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation. “That’s going to be such an asset to the community,” Garriock said. “Your money is doing wonderful things.”
The house lottery usually kicks off in March when a house is complete but due to some delays, the house is still having finishing touches put on it and the ticket-selling was held back until this month. Despite the setbacks, the club doesn’t think it will have trouble selling all 8,000 tickets by the July 1 draw date. “We know everyone in the community will get behind us like they always do,” Garriock said.
The house is open Thursday through Sunday. The first early bird draw is April 24.
