THUNDER BAY -- The school year is wrapping up, which means more young pedestrians on city streets during the day.
This has Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter reminding motorists to pay extra attention and stay safe. “The reminders that we give are just to slow down,” Stg. Porter said during an interview with CKPR Radio Thursday. “Our speed management program is going to be up and running and we’re going to be giving driver’s reminders every now and then that (speeding) can be very costly so just keep your speed in mind.”
Meanwhile, Sgt. Porter also has suggestions for the kids who will be on the streets more often with the end of the school year. “If you’re out there using your bicycle, riding on a skateboard or doing whatever you’re doing, just make sure you wear the gear,” he said. “With older kids, we’ve been talking to them in the schools about smart risks. Take the smart risks as opposed to dumb risks.”
