THUNDER BAY – Bonnie Anderson believes Waverley Park is underused.
The secretary of the Coalition for Waverley Park said the northside park, which is nestled underneath the former Port Arthur Collegiate Institute building and behind Magnus Theatre, is a beautiful green space that is accessible to everyone.
More people need to discover it, she said. “We love Waverley Park and we want to promote Waverley Park,” Anderson said. “Anybody can just come and hang out here and enjoy it.
The group hosted their third annual Waverley Park Picnic on Sunday to give people a reason to head down and check out the park.
Since hosting the first picnic two years ago, the event has started to grow.
This year’s version had the Thunder Bay Clown Club on site, along with a fiddler from the Kam Valley Fiddlers.
There were also a number of lawn games to keep everyone active and entertained.
Events like that showcase the park. “It’s a beautiful heritage park in the middle of the city,” Anderson said.
