THUNDER BAY -- Volunteer Thunder Bay is helping people learn about organizations and how they can help contribute.
The Volunteer Fair is hosted a one-day event Saturday for people to meet 35 Thunder Bay organizations looking to recruit new volunteers.
Camp Quality Director Ashleigh Quarrel said Volunteer Thunder Bay connects the community with opportunities to help support non-profit organizations.
"What Volunteer Thunder Bay does for us year round is much appreciated. We are a proud member of their crew and it really helps organizations to bring in some people that we wouldn't otherwise meet," Quarrel said.
Camp Quality is a volunteer based organization providing free camp experiences and year-round programming for children with cancer.
Over 450 volunteers give their time all year round to run their camps.
"We definitely need as many people on board as possible and we are so grateful for the time that our volunteers put in," Quarrel said.
"Volunteering is such a rewarding experience. As a volunteer myself I would say that I learn so much and I gain so much experience in my life and it's very rewarding on a personal level with the people you are helping."
Throughout the Volunteer Fair, organizers were handing out bingo cards to encourage visitation to each organization.
Individuals were asked to find out about what the non-profit group offers and what volunteer opportunities they have available in order to get their bingo card stamped.
"It's been non-stop," Quarrel said. "We've talked to lots of people and it's lovely to see that our community is so giving and interested in finding ways to give back no matter what age they are," Quarell said.
She added Volunteer Thunder Bay continues to build volunteers. It's a key network for organizations to find a helping hand.
"Thunder Bay is a community with a giant heart. Anytime there is a need for volunteers people are willing to step up to the plate."
