THUNDER BAY -- Eighties rockers the Cult will headline a two-day music festival being held this summer at Fort William Historical Park.

Fort Fest is scheduled for July 15 and 16 and also includes Starship, Platinum Blonde, Sass Jordan, Cinderella’s Tom Kiefer, The Trews, 54-40, Helix and Doucette.

Led by front-man Ian Astbury, the Cult have been described as a post-punk/gothic band that blasted up the charts in the mid-‘80s with hits like She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman and Love Removal Machine.

Starship arose from the ashes of Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship and is fronted by Mickey Thomas, a lead vocalist with the latter version of the former ‘60s pioneers.

The band’s most recent set-lists include a journey through the history of all three bands, include White Rabbit, Somebody to Love, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now and We Built This City.

Canadian music aficionados who came of age in the 1980s grew up on Platinum Blonde, the country’s answer to the new wave revolution, rocking the nation with hits like Standing in the Dark, Doesn’t Really Matter and Situation Critical.

The Trews, from Nova Scotia, and 54-40 add a little more modern touch to the two-day event, while Kiefer and Helix will bring their own brand of hair metal glam to the stage.

Advance passes are $60, which will increase to $100 on show days.

Campsites are available for $50 per night with electricity hook-up, $35 without. There will also be an after party each night from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. for those 25 and older.

For ticket information, phone 473-2344.
