THUNDER BAY -- A pair of vintage bombers departed Thunder Bay Monday morning, after a week-long visit.

A B-17 bomber dating back to 1944, and a smaller B-25 bomber, landed here on Holiday Monday, for public tours and even a few flights over the city.

It was a collaboration between the College Aviation Centre, the U-S Commemorative Air Force and the local Aviation Heritage Centre.

The visit attracted several veterans of the Second World War, along with hundreds of other aviation fans.

The chair of the School of Aviation, Paul de Oude said they had a lot of help from many volunteers, which made the event a big success.

Thunder Bay hosted a similar stop by a Lancaster bomber in 2010, along with visits by the Snowbirds and other popular airplanes in recent years.

De Oude added that he's expecting more touring aircraft to include Thunder Bay in their future plans, due to the success of this visit.
