THUNDER BAY --The Kakabeka Farmers Market was buzzing this morning with locals eager to get their hands on locally-produced chicken for the first time in many years.

There was a steady line of people waiting to pick up their pre-ordered birds, or reserve a chicken for the next market. Under their license the owners of Haywire Farm can only produce 600 chickens this year. But they said that's not nearly enough to meet the demand.

On Saturday the market was busy with 15 vendors selling their goods to familiar faces. The Kakabeka Farmers market is only two years old, but has already become a Saturday morning tradition for many.

Organizers say the focus is locally produced food. And being the first to sell Haywire Farm chickens is something to be proud of.

The chickens will be available every two weeks at the Kakabeka Farmers Market until Thanksgiving.
